Kansas City Mum Fears Downtown Stadium Limits Hospital Access

Tonight we conclude our bloggy posting with a shared note from the BEST & BRIGHTEST READERS amongst our www.TonysKansasCity.com blog community regarding healthcare access, tax breaks and baller games.

The premise . . .

DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY ROYALS STADIUM IMPERILS HEALTHCARE ACCESS FOR YOUNGSTERS!!!

More to the point . . .

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WON'T KANSAS CITY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?!?

Sure, it's a bit of a stretch . . .

And threats about family life from middle-class white ladies are "the last fig leaf" of any decent political campaign.

Still . . . This isn't an April Fools joke but one of many concerns dancing through the heads of voters before election night even if they don't know that Holmes and/or the 71 "Highway of Death" serves as a viable backdoor to the hospital complex location wherein speed enforcement is rarely a worry for skilled motorists . . . Don't ask how TKC knows this.

Nevertheless . . .

Here's the word/fear ahead of polls opening tomorrow . . . Your mileage may vary:

Vote No Mom: "Families Would Have Limited Mobility In And Out Of Hospital."

"I don't live in Jackson County and don't get to vote, but if I did, it would be no. Why? Sorry Royals, but my reason is really important. Children. The new stadium will limit access to the only children's hospital in Kansas City.

"Imagine your child in distress, not being able to breathe. You can't afford to call an ambulance because you don't have good insurance. You have to drive. Unfortunately, you can't make it through the crowds to get there. People are parked in the streets. Partying by the new stadium. There is no access.

"I know this to be possible, because the day of the Royals parade, my daughter had a scheduled procedure at CM. Granted, the crowd was larger, but it was awful. It took us two hours to get to the hospital (normally a 30 minute drive) and almost 4 hours sitting in the parking garage, with the car running, to leave.

"Children's Mercy, not only serves our community, it helps families battling CHD, cancer and other tragic childhood illnesses from other states. The reach and impact is huge. These families would now have limited mobility in and out of the hospital. And, there would no longer be local restaurants that are reasonably priced nearby.

"I am proud to be from Kansas City. I love our sports teams. However, as a mom who has had to battle the health system for over a decade, I don't think I should've had to fight traffic too. Or crowds. "
