We want to believe that this cash will help cure the worst & most deadly drug epidemic that the U.S. has ever witnessed.

Sadly . . .

Our experience with local government mostly reveals that all funding is self-perpetuating and mostly serves to sustain jobs rather than eradicate social ills.

"Payouts so far have ranged from $2.4 million to Kansas City to $4,500 to Westwood. The Kansas City Council voted to spend its share on treatment programs and the respite beds that provide a sanctuary to people trying to get clean. A spokeswoman said contracts would be awarded in the next four to six weeks.

"Health care experts, who see the settlement windfall as a one-time shot at stopping the epidemic, watch and hope that politicians don’t squander the chance the money provides."

Cities and counties in the metro are starting to spend windfalls from legal settlements with companies that made, shipped and sold opioids. While some prioritize law enforcement efforts to reduce drugs on the street, others try to attack demand by getting people into treatment.
