Kansas City Homicide #36: Deadly Gunfire Friday Afternoon

Again . . . We notice the local rate of killing continuing to ramp up as the weather turns nicer. 

The latest count . . .

The homicide marks the 36th homicide of the year in KCMO compared to 45 homicides at this time last year.

Here is the first report:

Homicide 5600 blk E 31st

This afternoon around 1 PM officers were dispatched to the 5600 blk of east 31st on a sound of shots.

Upon arrival they located an adult male victim in a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers performed life saving measures and summoned EMS to the scene. EMS declared the victim deceased.

This is being investigated as a homicide. Detectives are trying to determine what led up to the shooting.

Investigators are gathering evidence and interviewing any potential witnesses.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

Man found shot to death Friday in a car in east Kansas City, Missouri

A man was found shot to death Friday afternoon after Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department officers were sent to East 31st Street and Topping Avenue on a report of gunshots being fired.

Kansas City police investigating homicide near 31st, Oakley

Around 1 p.m. Kansas City police responded to a sound of shots call in the area of E. 31st Street and Oakley Avenue.
