Kansas City Chiefs & Royals Remain Silent Amid Political Desperation

Actually . . .

It's more like desperation AND DESPAIR confronting politicos who understand the future after Jackson County voters shut down the downtown stadium tax.

Here's the bigger question that so many locals are overlooking:

WHY WOULD CHIEFS OR ROYALS WANT TO RISK REJECTION FROM JACKSON COUNTY AGAIN WHEN THEY HAVE BETTER OPTIONS?!?

Locals don't want to believe that moving is a very real possibility and have devised all manner of delusions to convince themselves of a theory that is only supported by tortured reasoning of local politicos.

As always, there's reason for doubt and skepticism.

Consider:

- Nashville will GLADLY build a home for the Royals and local ownership might be willing to forgo nice seats and VIP treatment to turn an EPIC profit on the franchise.

- Kansas has been open about wanting to steal the Chiefs . . . But everyone is forgetting about Texas. There are more than enough football fans in the Lone Star State to support another NFL team. An overture from Dallas reminds us of as much . . . There's more info coming on this angle very soon.

But here's the most important fact to take away from aftermath conversations about the future of the NFL & MLB in Kansas City proper . . .

THE TEAMS HAVE STOPPED TALKING TO JACKSON COUNTY!!!

We talked about it last week a day before the "Royal wife" spilled the beans.

And so . . .

This quote & story featuring a former council lady & Jackson County Legislator isn't just speculative, it's WISHFUL THINKING from a former leader who is remembering a time when radical progressive activists didn't dominate the local discourse . . . Check-it:

A growing skepticism nationwide for referendums authorizing public financing of stadiums used by privately owned sports franchises, makes it easy to wonder if last week’s election was a political game changer.

At least some veterans of similar Kansas City area stadium campaigns aren’t buying it.

“I don’t think see this as, ‘Oh my gosh, we are never going to be able to approve a vote ever again,’” said former Jackson County Executive Katheryn Shields, who in 2006 helped lead the successful campaign to authorize a three-eighths cent sales tax to renovate Kauffman and Arrowhead stadiums.

“I don’t think this in any way shows that the citizens of Jackson County are less willing to support their sports teams than they have been.”

The result does show, Shields added, that any similar ballot measure proposed in the future needs to be more clearly communicated to voters.

“It is just a statement that we need to take the time to have everything crystal clear so that the public can understand it and then say, ‘Yes, we want to support this.’”
