EPIC Kansas City Country Club Plaza Gunfight Reignites Fear

After weekend posting regarding Saturday night gunfire on the Plaza, more deets emerged from comments, a myriad of social media outlets and a vast array of back channels. 

The basics . . .

KANSAS CITY COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA "SHOOTOUT" GUNFIRE WAS A LOT WORSE THAN LOCAL NEWS REPORTED!!!

To their credit . . .

TV news worked with authorities to confirm that multiple cars were hit and, thankfully, nobody was injured. Social media comments didn't put forward that kind of effort and speculation ruled the night for most of Saturday. 

However . . . 

According to several eyewitness reports . . . The gunfire spread across 47th Street and involved multiple parties. The police response was significant and bystanderS estimated that fear gripped hundreds of onlookers who hit the deck and ran for cover immediately following the spate of shooting. 

At the outset of Spring/Summer 2024 . . . This is likely a situation that demands concern given the worsening threat of violence in this entertainment district. 

At the very least . . . 

With upcoming prom season . . . Protecting youngsters should from violence that spreads across the demographic spectrum should be a priority.

Although no one was injured, the shooting marks another case of violent crime to happen on the Plaza. The entertainment district has also been dealing with car break-ins and robberies.

KCTV5 also reached out to KCPD to find out what’s being done on their end to help reduce crime in the area as the weather gets nicer, and more people are out and about.

A KCPD spokesperson said:

“We undertake many efforts focused around crime reduction, specifically violent crime reduction,” they go on to say “additionally the plaza, power and light, 18th and vine as well as other businesses/entertainment districts hire off duty officers to provide for additional safety in those areas.”


From another family on the Plaza during the gun fight . . .

Their car was parked in front of the restaurant and was struck by multiple bullets. “The angle that the bullet is in the car it would’ve hit someone in the head. It would’ve went though and hit them,” she said.

Saturday's shooting outside of the Shake Shack in Country Club Plaza didn't leave any injuries but the bullets did put a damper on one family's milestone celebration.

Kansas City Police are investigating another shooting at the Country Club Plaza. Shots were fired near Shake Shack Saturday evening and it all happened in broad daylight.
