We politely ask Sunday TKC readers to allow us a bit of grace to explore the local discourse without the constraints that so many journalists pretending to uphold the 4th Estate in between political campaigns.
In fact . . .
We're merely REPORTING on an underground facet of the Kansas City discourse which merits just a bit of consideration before campaign 2024 and the upcoming eclipse drive us all bonkers.
Here's the premise sent in by one of our favorite readers . . .
"Hey TKC, have we allowed for the possibility that this election was nothing more than a ruse?!? A cunning attempt to trick voters into giving the Royals & Chiefs permission to move out of Jackson County in pursuit of greater riches. On paper they donated big money but their campaign was lackluster, the mailings were big & bold but more infrequent than we expected.
"Let's go even deeper into it . . .
"One of the main proponents of the NO VOTE worked for a team that is partially owned by Patrick Mahomes and sprung out of the Hunt Sports Group."
"Think about it . . . This plan was so haphazard, secretive and off-putting that it almost seems like self-sabotage."
"I don't like thinking that forces are conspiring against the people of Jackson County but when billions of dollars are on the line, it's just not realistic to expect honesty. The NO VOTE now puts both the Chiefs & Royals in the driver's seat of their own destiny. If they leave, they'll be lured by even better offers and if they stay KCMO might have to mortgage our future with even more incentives.
"And, I hate to agree with him but Executive Frank White was correct when he noted that most of this expense was subsidized by Jackson County taxpayers who funded the special election."
To wit . . .
This theory is growing in popularity as locals question the funding of activist leadership and so many politicos who kept quiet during this debate.
Hint: Secrets never stay secret for very long.
On the bright side, this conspiracy theory reminds us NOT TO TAKE LOCAL POLITICS TOO SERIOUSLY given so many players out there looking to spin every angle to their advantage.
Developing . . .
