Celebrate Kansas City Fountain Day

Like most things related to Hallmark . . . This doesn't really have any significance and mostly serves as a way to profit from sentimentality. 

However . . .

The local tradition typically gives us an excuse to lament that shoddy shape of so many fountains that quietly remain dry during the Spring/Summer seasons.

Here's the more optimistic view . . .

Kansas City’s first fountains date back to the late 1800s, when they served a purely utilitarian purpose: thirsty dogs, horses and birds drank water when passing to and through the city.

“Fountain Day” itself goes back to 1973, when a Hallmark executive set up a foundation to raise money for fountain repair.
