Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade Celebrates 50th Year In 2024

Yes, there are concerns about security in the aftermath of the tragedy at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally.

However . . . In a recent press release, we notice a bit of defiance in defense of this tradition.

"The Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade will celebrate it’s 50th year on Sunday, March 17, 2024. As a testament to the spirit and strength of the Kansas City community the parade will march on."

Even better . . . In this post we celebrate the history of the event so that we don't forget:

"In 1974, friends Pat O’Neill Sr. and Mike Murphy wanted to figure out a way to drum up more business for their friend Dan Hogerty’s bar in a struggling downtown Kansas City. Perhaps inspired by the libations they were enjoying, they decided a St. Patrick’s Day parade was just what the bar, and Kansas City needed. In its humble first year the men along with friend Jim Lynch, some school kids from St. Regis grade school and a few other trailblazers with a hand painted sign walked down one city block and straight into Hogerty’s bar. Over the years more people joined this motley crew and began adding some much-needed structure and organization leading it to become the largest single-day event in Kansas City. Without a doubt, those four friends never dreamed that what they created would last 50 years let alone become a legendary yearly tradition in Kansas City."
