Kansas City Federal Student Loan Crunch For 'Undocumented' Students

Yes, we know . . . Our loyal and deliciously saucy right-wing readers would rather call these new friends "illegal aliens" but (surprisingly and just barely) TKC graduated college (even did some grad work) and we understand that the duality of our political tap dancing makes our little online political cabaret just a bit more interesting than reading fellow goons & bots on social media.

Nevertheless . . .

KCUR ADVOCATING FOR ILLEGAL/UNDOCUMENTED TUITION MIGHT NOT ELICIT SYMPATHY FROM EVEN THE MOST DIEHARD PROGRESSIVE!!!

Given that a college education is no long an option for so many native-born Americans . . . Assuring higher education for "recent arrivals" even newer than "dreamers" might be a bit of a stretch and something that would only find sympathy in the deepest and most depraved corners of a university sociology department.

Nevertheless . . . Here's the word from our journalistic betters . . .

"This year’s FAFSA application was supposed to be streamlined and easier to complete. Instead, the rollout has been marked by glitches, delays and updates complicating the process for families.

"That’s especially true for students who may have a different citizenship or immigration status than their parents. For two months after the application’s launch, students with parents who don’t have a Social Security number weren’t able to complete the application.

"The Office of Federal Student Aid announced earlier this month that it fixed those issues so contributors without a Social Security number couldn’t complete the form. But it still anticipated some glitches."
