Kansas City 2024 Homicide #29: Police Investigate Deadly Gunfire Saturday Morning

Last year at this time KCMO counted 36 homicides in a year that would break historic records.

Thankfully and mostly due to an arctic blast in January . . . The 2024 numbers remain lower than 2023 so far. Still . . . This is the second KC homicide in less than 24 hours and Springtime deadly gunfire has seen a noticeable spike this week.

Here is the first report on the latest KCPD homicide investigation . . .

Homicide 28th Ter. and Cleveland

This morning at 01:45 am officers were dispatched to 28th Ter. and Cleveland on a shooting call.

On arrival officers were led to a wooded area next to an empty parking lot. They located an adult male shooting victim there, who was unresponsive.

Officers rendered aid and called in EMS who transported the victim to the hospital where he was declared deceased.

Preliminary investigation indicates the victim and an unknown suspect had an interaction at that location that led to the suspect firing a shot or shots at the victim striking him.

Crime scene investigators are processing the scene and detectives are canvassing for witnesses.

If anyone heard or saw anything in this area or has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
