Kansas City 2024 Homicide #28: Deadly Gunfire Near Swope Park

Springtime homicides continue to spike but, thankfully, remain below last year's count which, at this date, already numbered 36.

Still . . . Here's the tragic report from this morning . . .

Homicide 3800 Block of E 67th St

This morning just after 8am officers were dispatched to 67th and Cleveland on a shooting call. When they arrived they were directed to an adult male shooting victim who was unresponsive in a parking lot next to a business there. Officers called for EMS to come to the scene, EMS transported the victim to the hospital for treatment. The victim was declared deceased at the hospital.

Preliminary indication is the victim was across the street from the business, near the corner of the intersection when the unknown suspect fired shots at the victim striking him.

Detectives and crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence and canvassing for witnesses. We are hopeful that someone heard or saw something that can give detectives more information about what took place here.

If anyone was in this area this morning and heard or saw anything or has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
