Kansas City 2024 Homicide #22 & #23: Deadly Double Shooting On Independence Ave.

This is the 2nd deadly double shooting so far this weekend as the level of local killing continues to near last year's pace. 

At this time in 2023 there were 26 homicides so far. 

Here is the first morning report:

Homicide 4800 block of Independence Ave

This morning around 4:30AM, officers were dispatched to the 4800 block of Independence Ave on a reported shooting.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male victim lying in a parking lot unresponsive suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers rendered medical aid until EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased. An additional adult male victim was located just inside the building also suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital by EMS suffering from life threatening injuries.

UPDATE: The second victim transported to the hospital has died from his injuries.

Preliminarily, it is believed an argument took place inside of the business.

Detectives are actively working on identifying a person of interest and police do not currently have anyone in custody.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements.

This is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

2 men die in shooting Sunday at Independence Avenue, Van Brunt Boulevard

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department is investigating a shooting Sunday at Independence Avenue and Van Brunt Boulevard.
