Jackson County Exec Letter Asks Election Funds Of Chiefs & Royals

There's so many things wrong with this note that we actually kind of admire it.

In fact . . .

EXEC FRANK WHITE FLEXING ON CHIEFS & ROYALS OFFERS AN EPIC LOOK AT HIS ELECTION STRATEGY AS THE VOTE APPROACHES!!!

Our minor quibble . . .

The county claiming poverty is a bit of a stretch.

First and foremost . . . Jackson County has more than 60 MILLION BUCKS worth of reserve COVID CASH that Legislators & the Exec can't agree how to spend.

Also . . . They have A TON OF PROPERTY TAX CASH to fund all manner of endeavors whilst residents scale down their housing needs.

Still . . .

The letter is an EXCEPTIONAL power move and might convince a great many low info voters.

Here's a snippet and more reporting . . .

Jackson County Executive White penned a letter to Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt and Royals Owner John Sherman requesting the team's pitch in for the costs.

"As the steward of Jackson Countys fiscal health and community welfare, I am faced with the immediate concern of covering the $1,000,000 cost associated with conducting this unplanned special election an expenditure not accounted for in our fiscal year 2024 budget," White said in the letter to Clark and Hunt. "This unforeseen expense necessitates consideration of drawing from our emergency reserves, a decision that poses a significant dilemma given our commitment to safeguarding the county's financial stability."

Just in case anybody was curious and to document everything about this story . . . Here's the note sent to media and a link to the letter:

Jackson County Executive requests Chiefs and Royals to cover $1 million April special election costs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. is requesting the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals cover the costs for the upcoming April 2 special election, estimated at $1,000,000.

The election concerns a new sales tax proposal that will generate over $2 billion in revenue for the two sports organizations. However, the unplanned cost of conducting the special election poses a substantial financial challenge for Jackson County, with the $1,000,000 expense not factored into the 2024 budget.

"This unforeseen expense requires us to take money from our emergency reserves, a decision that poses a significant dilemma given our commitment to safeguarding the county’s financial stability," said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “The teams’ agreement to cover these election costs will alleviate the financial burden on Jackson County taxpayers and safeguard the County's emergency funds for true unforeseen crises.”

In a letter addressed to Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt and Royals Owner John Sherman, County Executive White requested their support in covering the special election costs. His request is based on the significant benefits the proposed sales tax would bring to the teams, as well as the $2 million investment made thus far by the organizations in the campaign for the sales tax.

“By agreeing to cover the election costs, the teams would demonstrate their commitment to the community's well-being,” White said. “Together, I believe the county and its sports franchises can turn this challenge into an opportunity for demonstrating exceptional leadership and community solidarity.”
