Kansas City Low-Barrier Shelter Activists Threaten Opposition

Tonight we want to focus on ALLEGATIONS of a tussle amid tense discussions regarding the fate of a proposed Northeast Kansas City low-barrier shelter.

The basics . . .

NORTHEAST LEADERS REPORT THAT "HOMELESS ACTIVISTS" SHOVED AN OLDER LADY FOR SPEAKING OUT AGAINST THE PROPOSED LOW-BARRIER SHELTER!!!

Yes, of course there are more than a few sides of this story.

But right now social media claims and e-mail blasts are circulating across Northeast and they inform the tenor of this discussion going forward.

Here's the word from a low-barrier shelter opponent . . .

"I think we're going to have to show up in person and in large numbers because homeless shelter supporters are gathering their people in large numbers.

"However, be careful. A couple of these folks not only got in the face of a woman who testified against the ordinance, they put hands on her. I'm going to assume they are being coached to intimidate people. She is 70 years old and not a big woman."

Additional perspective . . .

"It looks like the homeless activists are taking a page from the book of the tenants and so many other activists who have bullied their way into power. This is the environment the Mayor and some members of the council have fostered. Only the people who yell, shove and scream for the cameras have a voice in Kansas City. What a disgusting way of conducting city business. It's not "community based" and it leaves people afraid to speak up. Thankfully, I know the lady who was on the receiving end of this and she's not going to back down. It's just a shame that we can't have calm & rational discussion about this issue and instead it all comes down to intimidation & bully tactics."

Accordingly, this is a big part of our mission here at www.TonysKansasCity.com . . .To provide a snarky & sometimes fun place where we can still talk about important issues WITHOUT getting up close & personal with our political opposition. Some of us get that more than others but we try to make it clear that TKC IS ABOUT THE LULZ, LOVE & CONCERN FOR KANSAS CITY . . . And so we advise our cowtown "activist" class and take a beat, a breath & a pause as this conversation moves forward and will likely get even more intense.
