Two Kansas City Homicide Scenes Follow Back-To-Back Chiefs Super Bowl Victory

Tragically, cruel reality has a way of interrupting Kansas City celebrations.

In the glow of Super Bowl glory we come to the appropriate conclusion that nobody needs our www.TonysKansasCity.com blog community to talk sports or even share witty pop culture banter.

However . . . This blog has always led the local discourse when it comes to reminding elected leaders that homicide numbers are the most important factor in determining the REAL progress of KCMO.

Sadly . . . Even amid historic victory . . . Kansas City had a setback last night with two deadly shooting scenes.

In fairness, last year the homicide count was 17 at this point and right now the number is only 8. Unfortunately,  most of us understand that this progress comes by way of the January arctic blast as much or more than anything else.

Even more importantly . . .

DOUBLE HOMICIDE AFTER SUPER BOWL BACK-TO-BACK VICTORY REMINDS US THAT ENSURING PUBLIC SAFETY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THE UPCOMING SUPER BOWL PARADE!!!

Again . . . Another bright side . . . Kansas City has a sterling reputation when it comes to the parade. Other towns like Philly are known for middle-class white people riots . . . Here in Kansas City the fans, families, biz and communities work with police to help keep the the party safe.

In the aftermath of deadly early morning gunfire . . . We can only mourn the tragic loss and rededicate ourselves to supporting productive efforts to keep the peace.

Here are the first reports . . .

 Homicide 50th and Bellefontaine

Officers began rendering aid and summoned EMS to the scene who declared the victim deceased.

Responding Officers detained two people who were at the scene when they arrived for further investigation.

 Later in the morning . . .

Homicide 39th and Woodland

This morning just after 2am officers were called to 39th and Woodland on a sound of shots call.

While officers were on the way the call was upgraded to a shooting call with two people shot.

On arrival officers were directed to two adult male shooting victims, on the ground south of the intersection, unresponsive.

Officers summoned EMS to the scene, they transported one victim to the hospital for treatment and the other victim was declared deceased at the scene.

Investigation indicates there was a number of people at the location in regard to a non-injury accident when an argument ensued. That argument escalated and shots were fired and the two victims were struck.

Detectives are talking with people who were at the scene when officers arrived, and canvassing for witnesses. Crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence.

The connection between the non-injury accident and the shooting not known, but is under investigation at this time.

The intersection is closed in all directions at this time for crime scene processing.
