Kansas City 2024 Homicide Hits #11 After Fat Tuesday Deadly Double Crime Scenes

Kansas City is quickly catching up to last year's historic pace as the number of local killings now reaches double digits. 

Unofficially, the count is 11 after deadly early evening gunfire. 

Last year the homicide count was 17 at this date on the calendar. However, an arctic blast early in the year froze a great deal of criminal activity. 

Tonight we share police reports and local TV news coverage as nice weather spikes local homicide once again . . .  

Homicide 1600 block of Jackson Ave

This evening around 7:45PM, officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Jackson Ave on a reported shooting.

When officers arrived they located the dispatched residence with an open door. Officers announced themselves as police and entered the home to check for any potential victims in need of help. As they began to check for victims they located an adult male victim lying inside the residence unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot trauma. EMS responded and declared the victim deceased.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated and we do not have anyone in custody at this time.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements.

This scene is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.

Homicide 6400 block of Paseo

This evening just before 5PM, officers were dispatched to the 6400 block of Paseo on a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male unresponsive in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The victim was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and not breathing. EMS was called to the scene where they pronounced the victim deceased.

While officers were on scene, an adult male exited a nearby apartment and was identified as a person of interest in the shooting. The male surrendered to police and was taken into custody without incident.

The preliminary investigation is believed the victim and suspect were acquainted and had become involved in a verbal argument.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements.

This is being investigated as a homicide and is considered ongoing at this time.

There is no current threat to the surrounding areas related to this incident.
