Kansas City 2024 Homicides Hit #19 After Apartment Complex Gunfire

Tonight we notice more deadly violence and the quickly rising pace of Kansas City, Missouri killing. 

Over the past week  & a half this cowtown has recorded more than half a dozen homicides and we're quickly catching up to last year's record pace after January's arctic blast paused the numbers.

Here's the first report . . . 

Homicide 5100 block of Hickory

Tonight just before 7pm officers were dispatched to the 5100 block of Hickory on a sound of gunshots call. While officers were on the way the call was upgraded to a shooting call.

On arrival officers were directed to a parking lot outside one of the apartment buildings there.

They located the victim, an adult male, unresponsive next to a vehicle. Officers called in EMS who declared the victim deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim had an interaction in the parking lot with one or more suspects that led to gunfire, and the victim was struck.

Detectives are talking to people who were at the scene when officers arrived. They are also canvassing for witnesses. Crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence to get a better idea of what led up to the shooting.

This is a large apartment complex, with many residents, detectives are hopeful that someone may have information. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
