Independence Eviction Triple Shooting Kills Officer & Process Server

News of economic harsh times and tragic hit the metro this afternoon. 

Technically, this might be the 4th major mass shooting we've seen in the area so far in 2024.

Here are the basics of the story . . .

An Independence Police officer and a civil process server were killed Thursday afternoon during a shooting in Independence. At least one other officer was injured.

The shooting occurred at a home in the area of N. Elsea Smith Road and Bundschu Road.

The civil processor went to the residence and called law enforcement for backup; the Independence Police Department sent two officers.

A veteran officer was killed and a new hire suffered serious injuries in the shooting, according to Officer Jack Taylor, a spokesperson with the Independence Police Department. A suspect is in custody.
