Today, with very little fanfare and absolutely no reporting . . . We're watching an EPIC power play in action that will determine how politics works in Kansas City for years to come.
Close watchers of city hall politics have shown some interest in this bit of behind the scenes posturing.
So let's review one more time before it becomes local law . . .
TKC reported last summer about a power play to split up the permitting functions, taking them away from the City Planning Department and moving the lucrative process to the Water and Public Works Departments.
Insiders tell us this is important for a few reasons:
- The move benefits developers who want fewer checks, balances & questions.
- Public Works seems to have their hands full filling potholes now and might not be the best place to deal with new permits.
- This move makes the byzantine maze at 12th & Oak even worse.
Also . . . Successful legislation from council dude Kevin O'Neill should always be judged SKEPTICALLY.
Behind the scenes our www.TonysKansasCity.com blog community can't help but notice talk about the exceptionally Irish dude as KC's next mayor and his "expertise" with this legislative move puts him one step closer to a career pinnacle.
Developing . . .
