"Currently, people listen to an automated message that encourages them to keep holding and the next live call taker will be with them shortly. In May, the average hold time was a full minute . . . Kansas City never met that goal for any month in 2023. In December, only 65.77% of calls were answered within 20 seconds. May was even worse at 45%."

Hold times for people calling 911 in Kansas City have gotten longer over the years, and are much higher than the hold times in surrounding municipalities.
