KC2026 World Cup Hype Machine Promises 500% 'Economic Impact' Payout For Kansas

Soccer money sounds too good to be true as the Kansas GOP is rightfully skeptical about a $28-MILLION buy-in for good vibes, photo opportunities and a great many traveling Mexican families doing EPIC damage to complimentary hotel breakfast buffets across the region.

"Lobbyist John Federico and Katherine Holland executive director of KC2026, a nonprofit entity managing strategy and execution, claimed that Kansas will see $163 million in direct economic impact, but did not go into detail on how that estimate was calculated or how much of that benefit Kansas would lose if no additional taxpayer money were allocated.

"Holland did say that is a low-end estimate, based on hotel rooms, travel considerations and food and beverage consumption. The bidding process required Kansas City to have 55,000 hotel rooms within a 2.5-hour drive. The Kansas side has about 18,500 in that radius.

"Regionally, they estimate the impact at $653 million with nearly 74,000 jobs supported during the event."
