Kansas City Records First 2024 Homicide

Tragically, the cycle of violence continues into a new year as the urban core endures another local killing.

Of course it's too early to decipher much from Daily Homicide Report stats but we're already ahead of last year's pace as January is typically Kansas City's most peaceful month given the frigid temperatures.

Here's the first report . . .

Homicide 2600 Block of Agnes Ave

This evening (1/3/24) just before 10PM, officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Agnes Ave on a reported EMS call.

Officers arrived on scene where they met EMS personnel in the yard of a nearby residence. EMS was rendering aid on an adult male believed to be suffering from a medical emergency. Upon further review, it was determined the victim was suffering from unknown bodily trauma.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.

A person of interest has not been identified and police do not currently have anyone in custody.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements.

This is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.

If anyone was in or around the area at this time and saw or heard anything they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS there is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
