Kansas City 2024 Homicide #2: Man Shot Dead On Prospect Ave.

The quotient of local violence persists into the new year and early this morning police investigated the latest spate of deadly gunfire.

Here is the first report as this year's murder count begins anew:

Homicide 6200 block of Prospect Ave

Just after midnight, officers were dispatched to the 6200 block of Prospect Ave. on a reported EMS call.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male lying in a nearby business parking lot unresponsive and appeared to be suffering from a medical emergency. Officers immediately began to render medical aid until EMS arrived to transport the victim. It was later discovered the victim was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. EMS transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.

A person of interest has not been identified and police do not currently have anyone in custody.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements.

This is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.
