Jackson County Puts Sales Tax On Ballot To Keep Royals & Chiefs

Today the courthouse FINALLY reached an agreement that hopes to lock in the Chiefs & Royals for generations to come . . .

That's a nice thought . . . Our main gripe . . .

KANSAS CITY ROYALS STILL HAVEN'T LEVELED WITH TAXPAYERS ABOUT THEIR STADIUM PLANS & THIS MONEY GIVES THEM A LOT OF LEEWAY!!!

It's basically corporate socialism but a lot of our readers don't like it when we talk economics so let's not belabor that point.

In fact . . .

There's a lot of reasons NOT to get upset about all of this because:

Low turnout in April almost guarantees a victory according to polling.

There will be no organized opposition group and it's very hard to vote against the home team.

We'll be interested if activists & tax fighters are willing to collab at the outset of a contentious election year.

Accordingly, here's the summary and more info . . .

"Jackson County voters will decide in April whether to continue paying a sales tax for another 40 years to support construction of a new downtown ballpark for the Royals and renovations at Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs.

"County legislators voted 8-1 on Monday on ballot language for a new 3/8th-cent sales tax to replace the current one that expires in September 2031, eight months after the county’s leases with the Royals and Chiefs at the Truman Sports Complex are set to expire."
