“We’re in an epidemic when it comes to gun violence in Kansas City. We are losing people at alarming rates,” said Damon Daniel, the President of the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime. “What else are we talking about? Why isn’t this the biggest focus in Kansas City?”

“We need to declare a state of emergency,” said Daniel. “People say, ‘This is not a natural disaster,’ but people declare a state of emergency if there is a tornado that kills three people. We are losing hundreds of people annually.”

Daniel says Kansas City’s social service agencies are vastly underfunded. He feels more money needs to be invested in community outreach groups, rather than more police.
