TKC Fact Check: Kansas City Royals Aren't Married To This Cowtown & They Could Leave

A contention from our blog community comments on the topic of commitment and the local political discourse . . . Here's the sketchy contention intended to provide reassurance as stadium talks break down:

"Kansas City Royals won't leave the metro BECAUSE they have local connections and our rich, elite would never betray baseball fans."

Our TKC retort . . .

STL SAID THE SAME THING BEFORE THE RAMS TOOK OFF!!!

Even more embarrassingly . . . EPIC public subsidy wasn't even part of that deal . . . LA is just a better market than STL . . . And billionaire Stan Kroenke still lives in Missouri even after his insult and betrayal of KC's I-70 rival.

Accordingly . . .

If locals think that friendship will keep the Royals nearby . . . Go ask your best buddy for a few million dollars in credit AND rights to a portion of his front yard for the next 50 years AND THEN see if your answer is the same.

Here's a news reference that seems to confirm our suspicions . . .

"Underlying the pitch for new stadiums is an assumption that teams may head elsewhere if they don’t get what they want, a rare yet realistic possibility highlighted by MLB’s approval last month for the Oakland Athletics to relocate from California to Las Vegas."
