Playlist: Kansas City Loves Lady Sports More Than Royals

This one is only for TKC READERS who follow this blog and the local discourse VERY CLOSELY . . .

Here's the context . . .

This year we noticed former KC Star columnist Dave Helling prattling on about women's sports and extolling the virtues of even the mostly abandoned WNBA.

We thought he was losing it and fading quickly from his days as one of the top metro columnists.

Turns out . . . He was, in fact, onto something and offering locals a glimpse at the future.

To wit . . . Tonight we share another fun fact and something that most locals aren't going to believe until it happens.

KANSAS CITY POLITICOS HOPE TO LEVERAGE LADY SPORTS AS ROYALS NOW SEEM ALMOST CERTAIN TO DEPART AS NEW STADIUM TALKS COLLAPSE!!!

Here's the punchline . . .

IF YOU DON'T LIKE LADY SOCCER MORE THAN MLB BASEBALL YOU'RE SEXIST!!!

Sadly . . . This strategy isn't new . . . And it has never bolstered the fortunes of lady ballers who still struggle to find an audience that is on par with pro football, baseball or basketball.

Disagree all you like . . .

KANSAS CITY PROPER WILL START 2024 CONFRONTING THE VERY REAL THREAT THAT WE'LL SOON NO LONGER STAND AS THE VERY BEST "MAJOR LEAGUE" MIDWEST TOWN!!!

Of course there have been assurances which claim this won't happen.

On a much more serious topic . . . Promises to keep pro teams in town come from the same guy who also promised to keep the homicide count under 100.

It's fair to be skeptical of claims from a politico who refused to debate during his recent mayoral campaign and still seems like he's auditioning for Beltway jobs rather than contemplating the future of Kansas City.

And all of this inspires tonight's TKC playlist on the topic of lady victory . . .

Sadly, at the risk of oversharing, this cold weather tune is apropos for KC's sporting future and we have no idea why so many 30-something white ladies working as strippers seem to know all the words.

From the early 2000s this "girl power" anthem was celebrated even if the sentiments seem dated by today's political standards. We think it's probably one of Kelly Clarkson's best tunes . . .

A 90s classic that reminds us of some of our favorite people . . .

Whitney Houston and Bridget Jones almost ruined this song but the original makes us happy given that it remains a worthwhile tune that stands the test of time.

The most KICK-ASS TKC READERS already knew this was where we were going . . . And so we submit to our fate and conclude with Cyndi Lauper's timeless ode to femininity that ALMOST seems like sacrilege given that it inspires so many old school dudes to dance like nobody's watching.

Enjoy . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
