Dynamics may be shifting. Some Jackson County and Kansas City officials have publicly fretted that both franchises could go elsewhere if the parties can't come to terms soon over public stadium financing. Fueling that fire is chatter that Kansas leaders, including Gov. Laura Kelly, have made a financial push for at least a Chiefs stadium across the state line, multiple insiders told the Kansas City Business Journal.

Jackson County officials have a little over seven weeks left to put a sales tax extension for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals up for an April ballot vote.
