Kansas City Scribe Denounces Guv DeSantis Over 'Dismissive' Al Qaeda Comment

During the fourth Republican presidential primary debate on Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, citing his time serving in the Middle East, referred to the clothing worn by Al Qaeda as “man dresses.”

Accordingly . . .

Here's the reaction and perspective from this town's top faith writer . . .

"So to complain about DeSantis' foolish wording is in no way to defend terrorists. But it is to suggest that critical, dismissive words about the religious faith and practices of others need to be eliminated from our discourse. Now. We can disagree about which religious path, if any, makes the most sense. And we can criticize people of faith other than our own when they do illegal, destructive and abominable acts.

"But to refer to a hijab as part of a 'costume' or clothing worn by men who identify as Muslim as 'man dresses' simply adds needless fuel to the fire of religious bigotry and hatred."
