Remember . . .

In the early days of online commerce . . . Shoppers flocked to online stores because of something as piddly as sales tax. 

Now, online returns are killing the planet but still seem like a great feature for greedy consumers who want to utilize international shipping infrastructure merely to turn their closest into a mini-department store.

Here's the local angle wherein cowtown merchants can't keep up with the deep pockets of Jeff Bezos:

"Retailers are now looking for ways to mitigate returns, with some changing their policies or limiting online returns . . . Here in the Kansas City area, local shops say accepting returns is something they can't afford as small businesses."

A report released by the National Retail Federation indicates customers returned $743 billion worth of merchandise in 2023.
