Kansas City Mayor Q Hypes New Plaza Boss & Possible Public Option

Don't worry . . .

YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT TO SHARE SKEPTICISM ABOUT MAYOR Q GETTING HANDS ON IN THE DISCOUNT SALE OF KANSAS CITY'S COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA.

Remember . . . Earlier this year . . .

"The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission document reported the non-recourse property loan default amount was $295.2 million, $147.6 million at the pro rata share.

"Macerich and Taubman have begun negotiations with the lender on the terms of the loan, per the quarterly report."

We won't speculate too much . . . However, here's what we understand . . .

There's no reason for the Mayor's involvement in the sale of a local private asset. Plaza ownership has changed hands nearly half a dozen times over the past 30 years and 12th & Oak hasn't offered much participation or guidance.

However . . .

Recent default, sketchy pedestrian proposals and the involvement of the Hunt family hint Kansas City's hands-on approach might signal dreaded public/private partnership that will almost certainly signal the impending destruction of this beloved shopping district.

Translation: City Hall partial ownership & greater involvement in the management of the Country Club Plaza is nothing more or less than a death sentence for Kansas City's capitalistic crown jewel that survived for more than 100 years until the current administration shouted "no justice, no peace" in the middle of a riot within the district.

More to the point . . .

If you don't believe TKC and think that KCMO can effectively run an entertainment district . . .

Simply check receipts for the P&L District . . .

Or . . .
