Kansas City 'Longest Night Vigil' 2023

A tradition that continues amid record breaking local violence . . . Here's the note and more info on the gathering:

"An unimaginable number of Homicides in Kansas City is not going unnoticed by major faith groups in our city.  

"For more than 10 years the annual Kansas City Longest Night Service to remember families of homicide victims in our city will again take place.  

"This event is open everyone in our community but-especially those whose lives have been devasted by homicide of a loved one.

"The evening will feature a time to care for the victims’ families especially as Christmas approaches and this will be their first Christmas without their loved one.  

"It will also feature reading the name of every homicide victim and a commitment to work to make our community a safe place for all who call Kansas City home"

With crosses representing lives lost, KC may lose more than ever before

Kansas City is getting a clear picture of how violent Jackson County has become with the crosses that have been placed in the ground outside The Gathering Baptist Church on Nolan Avenue in Independence.
