Kansas City 2023 Homicide #178: Deadly Double Shooting Christmas Weekend

The latest report this afternoon . . . 

Kansas City now stands only two homicides from breaking another all-time record for deadly violence on local streets. 

Here's the latest report and the 2nd homicide in the past 24 hours . . .

7th and Park

On 12/24/2023 just before 10 am, officers were dispatched to 8th and Olive on a reported sound of shots.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries.  Officers were then directed to a second shooting victim inside a vehicle parked the street. Officers checked for signs of life which were met with negative results.  EMS arrived on scene and subsequently pronounced the victim deceased.

The circumstances leading up to the homicide are unknown.  There is no one in custody at this time and we have no reason to believe there is an immediate risk to the public.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Personnel have responded to the scene.  They will be processing the scene to recover any evidence and speaking to any potential witnesses.

There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information provided to TIPS which leads to an arrest in the case.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
