
As we noted previously, two homicides have been removed from the local murder count. However, tonight there's no denying that local levels of violence continue trending along a historically bloody pace.
With ten more days to go in the year . . . Once again, KCMO stands at less than 5 homicides away from, tragically, achieving another record breaking year for local killing.
Here's the first report . . .
Homicide 5500 Blk of St John
On 12/20/2023 just before 10 pm, officers were dispatched to 5522 St John Ave on a reported sounds of shots. While enroute the call was updated to a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers observed an adult male lying on the sidewalk suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. EMS arrived on scene and subsequently pronounced the victim deceased.
The circumstances leading up to the homicide are unknown. There is no one in custody at this time and we have no reason to believe there is an immediate risk to the public.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Personnel have responded to the scene. They will be processing the scene to recover any evidence and speaking to any potential witnesses.

There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information provided to TIPS which leads to an arrest in the case.
We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
