Kansas City 2023 Homicide #174: Woman Killed In Triple Shooting

The weekend starts with more news of deadly local violence and the tragic progression toward another record breaking year for KCMO homicides.

Kansas City is now mere single digits away from a new homicide record with most of December still ahead of us.

Again we're outpacing 2020 - The deadliest year on record.

Here's the latest report and more info from local news as well . . .

Homicide Independence Ave and Cleveland

(At) About 9:20pm officers were called to the 3700 block of Independence Ave. on a shooting call.

On arrival officers located an adult male and an adult female shooting victim.

The adult male was conscious and the adult female was unresponsive. Officers rendered aid and summoned EMS to the scene. EMS transported the male victim to the hospital for treatment of what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. EMS declared the female victim deceased at the scene.

While officers were investigating the shooting they were notified by dispatch of a third victim, an adult male, that arrived a short time after the shooting at 14th and Bennington. He told officers that he had been shot at the 3700 block of Independence Ave location. That third victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of what is thought to be non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates the male victim located at the scene had an interaction with an unknown suspect on the sidewalk near the street there. That interaction escalated and the suspect fired shots striking all 3 victims. There is no additional suspect information at this time.

Detectives are canvassing for witnesses and any surveillance video, and crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence.

If anyone has any information, or witnessed the shooting, they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
