Overland Park Police: No Security Shortage At Oak Park Mall

Tonight suburban police attempt to take control of the narrative at the outset of the holiday season.

"I was really surprised when I heard there was a shooting at the mall,” John Lacy with the Overland Park Police Departmentsaid. "Something like this, with regard to firearms, this is unheard of. It doesn't happen like this all the time."

Only one shot was fired, and no one was hit, but it was enough to leave shoppers scared and in shock.

"We want to make sure that the citizens of Overland Park and the surrounding areas, if they come to Overland Park, that they feel safe shopping in our mall here,” he said. “There's no shortage of security.”
