Kansas City Toy Train Streetcar Starts BEGGING For Donations

Amid the holiday season we've often noted that Kansas City is a place that's far more generous than any other municipality in the nation. 

Rich and poor often dig deep in order to fund so many good causes and sustain people doing important work for the benefit of the community. 

A caveat . . . 

KANSAS CITY'S TOY TRAIN ASKING FOR CHARITY IS AN INSULT TO THE ELECTORATE AND SIGNALS THAT COWTOWN LIGHT RAIL SCHEMES NOW SUFFER EPIC MONEY PROBLEMS!!!

A decade into this debate even the most strident supporter is forced to admit that promises of economic benefit have been unrealized so far. 

In fact . . .

The only thing the streetcar has accomplished is sketchy mail-in ballot gerrymandering, making life harder for downtown restaurants and killing a great many tires on Main. 

Now . . .

We look at local desperation as the toy train puts its hand out . . . 

On Monday, the Port KC board approved increasing its initial contribution from $8.5 million to $10.7 million. Port KC also has established a nonprofit called KC CORE to accept charitable contributions to the streetcar extension project.

“KC CORE, a Missouri nonprofit corporation that exists, in part, for the purpose of funding multimodal transportation projects and connecting people to Berkley Riverfront,” according to Port KC.

Streetcar Riverfront Extension Cost Surges

The cost of extending the streetcar line to the riverfront has jumped 65% to $61.1 million, forcing local funders to seek private donations.
