Kansas City Streetcar Crackdown On Main Mimics Seattle Strategy

The toy train seems bereft of new ideas and totally dependent on Prez Biden winning another term and tossing around a lot more free money.

Accordingly . . .

CHECK LOCAL TOY TRAIN HYPE STILL HOPING THAT KANSAS CITY WILL TRANSFORM INTO SEATTLE ON THE PLAINS!!!

It's a nice idea but still hasn't materialized after nearly a decade of streetcar promotion.

Now that the bus might have to reinstate fares . . . The argument against freebie streetcar rides threatens to spoil so many good vibes that this form of transit has garnered.

Again . . .

The key to streetcar "success" has always been limiting voter participation by way of mail-in low turnout localized elections read: gerrymandering.

And so . . .

The end result will be less freedom of movement on Main.

What's worse is that we haven't seem ANY of the economic growth promised by streetcar proponents. Look closely and notice a YUUUGGGEEEE vacant storefront at the apex of the current toy train line at 12th & Main.

Meanwhile . . .

Here's the promise to bring that kind of "success" further along and hope that West Coast imitation translates into economic gain . . .

Acting on a request from the Kansas City Council, the authority is including dedicated lanes as part of an overall plan intended to tame Main to be a more pedestrian and transit-friendly street.

“We’re already taking Main Street from six lanes to four lanes,” said Tom Gerend, executive director of the Streetcar Authority.

“This is considering an opportunity to take those outside travel lanes where the streetcar will be running and sign them as dedicated, transit only….Seattle took the same approach.
