Kansas City Ignores Crime & Rioting Impact On Country Club Plaza Vacancies

There's an effort to rewrite the history of Kansas City that shouldn't be ignored.

Put simply . . .

KANSAS CITY JOURNALISTS DUTIFULLY FORGET 2020 COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA RIOTS WHEN REPORTING ON ECONOMIC HARDSHIPS ENDURED BY THIS ICONIC ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT!!!

There are a few things to consider about a recent report . . .

It seems that the "public" news cartel has signed on former KC Star food & entertainment scribe Joyce Smith to their ranks. We hear the pay isn't great but it's better than nothing and she'll be in good company with all of the other dead-tree castaways.

However . . . Here latest report starts with a great premise but ignores an important detail.

That basics . . .

Taubman and Macerich defaulted on a $295 million loan and have reportedly agreed to sell the Plaza at a fire sale price.

So, what happened?

Now . . .

Of course COVID lockdowns played a major role in Plaza retail devastation and we can't downplay the impact of Amazon and Internets tech that makes so much about traditional shopping obsolete.

However . . .

RISING VIOLENCE & BLM 2020 RIOTS REMAIN AN INTEGRAL COMPONENT IN DRIVING CUSTOMERS AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION!!!

To deny this is to falsify the historical record. To negate the death of some poor photog who was killed during this riot . . . To turn a blind eye to a police car & TV news truck that was burned.

In much the same way that so many conservatives now work diligently to tell us that George Floyd killed himself and it wasn't a bad cop taking a breather on his neck instead of working to help the drug-addled guy . . . Our progressive local media also wants us to ignore what so many witnessed with their eyes as they play to small town instincts which politely ignores the threat of politically motivated violence and the devastation it has wrought upon the local economy.
