This morning starts with continued confirmation of near historic violence on Kansas City streets and local brutality getting up close & personal.
Again . . . In 2020, the deadliest year in KCMO history, the pace counted 162 at this point on the calendar and this latest killing puts us right in line with those numbers.
This morning's murder represents an 8% increase over last year when homicides numbered only 149 YTD.
Here's the first report with more info to follow . . .
Homicide 24th and Elmwood
On 11/10/2023 just after 4 am, officers were dispatched to 24th and Elmwood on a reported cutting.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from apparent bodily trauma. Officers provided first aid until EMS arrived on scene and transported the victim to an area hospital were he later died from his injuries.
Initial investigation revealed the circumstances leading up to the homicide was the result of an argument. No one is in custody at this time and detectives are looking for a subject of interest. We have no reason to believe there is an immediate risk to the public.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Personnel have responded to the scene. They will be processing the scene to recover any evidence and speaking to any potential witnesses.
Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at 816-234-5043. Or if you wish to remain anonymous you can do so by calling the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information provided to TIPS which leads to an arrest in the case.
We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
