Kansas City Chiefs Fan In 'Blackface' Sparks Renewed Outcry

Again . . . From our perspective and despite our love of history . . . It's only a matter of time until the Kansas City Chiefs are forced to change their name.

Accordingly . . .

A YOUNG FAN WEARING WHAT SEEMS TO BE BLACKFACE & TRADITIONAL NATIVE HEADDRESS HAS SPARKED NATIONWIDE OUTRAGE & REPEATED DEMANDS TO BAN THE CHOP & CHANGE THE NAME OF THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS!!!

Actually . . .

There's already a widely supported crackdown against these kind of inflammatory outfits at Arrowhead but they're hard to enforce and other stadiums won't stop their own fans from these kind of openly racist displays.

IT'S ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE YOUNGSTER'S FACE WAS RED BUT THE "BLACKFACE" OUTRAGE IS GAINING TRACTION & SPARKED THIS CONVERSATION!!!

Like it or not the image is a "gotcha" moment that continues to confront the team . . . And trying to point out the subtleties of an overtly racist costume is a losing fight.

Sorry . . . TKC likes the Chiefs moniker was would rather that team found a classy way to move forward.

But this really does seems to be the ‘Ku Klux Kiddies’ moment for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Also . . . For native Americans . . . Using their religious symbols for a fan costume and as part of a mascot ensemble is every bit as incendiary as "blackface" might be to most NFL fans.

Moreover . . .

In 20 years it'll be laughable that the Chiefs held on to the name so long because they found one or two friendly groups willing to give them a pass on the issue. Context . . . Rapper Kanye West once adorned himself in a Confederate flag but that doesn't make the image any less controversial.

Here's part of the outcry that's gaining traction and will eventually hit critical mass given the repeated openly racist displays . . .

"While it isn’t the league’s responsibility to stop racism and hate from being taught in the home, they are a league that has relentlessly participated in prejudice. If the NFL had outlawed the chop at Chiefs games and been more aggressive in changing the team’s name, then we wouldn’t be here.

"There’s no place for a franchise to be called the 'Chiefs' in a league that’s already eradicated 'Redskins.' "

TKC Note . . . The fan looks young so we're not going to feature him on our side of the blog but the reality is that the image of the nasty costume is circulating throughout national media today and was broadcast by the NFL . . .
