Once again the news cycle concludes with another homicide as we push past 2020 numbers and slowly but surely work our way toward another record-breaking year for local murder.
Remember that there were only 150 homicides at this time last year.
Here is the UPDATED report with word of two killings:
Homicide 4200 Block of Sterling
Tonight about 9:20 pm officers were dispatched to 42nd and Sterling on a shooting call.
On arrival officers were directed to a parking lot just east of the intersection where they located an adult male shooting victim unresponsive. Officers rendered aid and summoned EMS to the scene. EMS transported the victim to the hospital where he was declared deceased a short time later.
Additional responding officers were directed to an additional adult male shooting victim a couple hundred yards to the east in a separate business parking lot. That victim was declared deceased by EMS there at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at least one of the victims was shot outside in the parking lot. Officers never received any reports of any shots being fired inside of any businesses in this area.
Detectives and Crime Scene investigators are processing the large scene in the parking lot to gather all the evidence that will hopefully give investigators more information on the sequence of events that led to the victims being shot.
If anyone heard or saw anything in this area or has any information, who has not talked to detectives yet is asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS there is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
