Should Guv Parson Pardon Convicted Former Kansas City Detective?!?

We're at the outset of what might be a local conservative crusade going into an election year.

Our main question . . .

Given a great deal of support for police in Red State Missouri . . . Will #BackTheBlue activists encouraging the pardon of a former police detective convicted of manslaughter & armed criminal action garner enough support to force a political response???

At this point . . . The Guv has put off this issue and said that nobody has asked him yet.

Now . . . Pardon from the guv might the the only way for pro-police supporters to free the former detective but the political price will be heavy and could rally an otherwise lethargic urban electorate.

Notably, social justice activists are already working to rally against any potential pardon.

Moreover . . . At the end of the day this is the main question . . .

SHOULD GUV PARSON PARDON CONVICTED FORMER DETECTIVE ERIC DEVALKENAERE?!?!

For those who want to talk about the issue beyond an understandable reactionary objection to locking up former police . . . A conviction upheld by an appeals court signals STRONG judicial support for keeping this dude in the clink . . .

Going against courts isn't often successful and is mostly a bad look for defenders of law & order.

On the other hand . . .

Strident arguments about how this case was prosecuted run deep and might be enough to justify AN unprecedented power move that might seem unlikely to the casual observer.

On the other, other hand . . .

We're not so sure there is wide community support for a conviction outside the activist & chattering classes . . .

The threat that our blog community debunked . . . The most overzealous professional protesters claim that "the community" will riot if the former detective goes free . . . MAYBE if all of the other news outlets pick up the story . . . But so far this story seems to be relegated to a local and not even statewide issue.

And so we turn to our blog community in order to attempt to unpack public perception.

You decide . . .
