As more Americans struggle with addiction in the aftermath of the pandemic, it's worth considering the misadventures of a cowtown pundit and his recent public confession.
Our snarky TKC subtitle:
OMG!!! SCOTT PARKS FINALLY ADMITS HE'S AN ANGRY DRUNK!!! WILL KANSAS CITY FORGIVE HIM?!?!
Okay . . .
That's kinda mean.
A more forthright perspective . . . We're honestly glad this local media dude is getting the help he needs and he seems to have a great support system of friends & family to help him stay on the right & healthy track.
Now back to TKC getting all of our bloggy chuckles . . .
The newspaper did Parks a solid by glossing over all of the drama already well-documented on the Internets.
Anybody who can do a simple X/Twitter search has already seen the unconfirmed court dox . . . We're not gonna belabor the point and it's probably a good thing that he doesn't want to get into his personal life.
However . . .
It seems that longtime fans and/or hate-listeners aren't given Scott Parks a lot of grace and have spent the last month calling him out during his absence.
The basics of their beef . . .
Scott Parks has been MEAN AZ HELL to his MAGA critics and deployed insulting attacks against those who dispute his more traditionally mainstream conservative views. And so, former online rivals are still trolling for his attention and, tragically, seem to be reveling in a recent setback for the talker.
And so . . . Finally they have their answer by way of this money line . . .
“The gist of it, quite frankly,” said Parks, 52, “I put something above my sobriety. When that happens, you’re basically left with a couple of choices. One is either get better and go to a rehab facility — which I did. Or you can die. And I chose to go to a rehab facility for the last month.”
Overall this was a decent local entertainment article and we only have a minor quibble with this line:
"It was (co-host Dana) Wright, he said, who first noticed his relapse and confronted him and, in spite of Parks’ anger and protest, called Parks’ brother. On the talk show, which discusses and debates current events, the two are friendly foils to each other — Wright expressing liberal viewpoints to Parks’ more conservative."
Allow us to retort . . .
WRONG!!! THEY TALK ABOUT NOTHING!!! WE'VE LISTENED TO THEM SPEND HALF AN HOUR DEBATING FAST FOOD!!! THEY MAKE PEOPLE MAGAZINE LOOK LIKE THE WALL STREET JOURNAL & DON'T CONTRIBUTE MUCH TO THE LOCAL DISCOURSE!!!
Sure . . .
Anybody running this kind of show would have to factor in a fair amount of pop culture garbage.
But Dana & Parks reveal in banal, suburban faux-centrist observations and rarely dare to venture outside of their comfort zone . . . And for this cynical strategy they've earned a greater share of a quickly fading cowtown terrestrial radio market.
