Kansas City 2023 Homicide Count Matches Historic 2020 Pace

Unofficially . . . The local murder count now rises to 156 . . .

What local news didn't mention is that the current KCMO homicide count puts us right back in line with 2020 numbers -- The deadliest year in Kansas City history.

We can't help but notice that other cities both red & blue across the nation are noticing declines in violent crime in the aftermath of the pandemic . . . Tragically, Kansas City hasn't been able to achieve the same progress.

Here is the first report and more info to follow . . .

Suspicious Death 4000 block of E 56th Ter

This morning about 10:15am officers were called to an apartment in the 4000 block of E. 56th Ter on a medical call.

On arrival officers were directed inside an apartment where the caller was located. He advised he had responded to that location to check on a relative, an adult female, that he had not heard from in a period of time. Upon entering the apartment to check on her he located the female deceased.

Based on the preliminary circumstances investigators believe the death is likely not natural. Homicide detectives have responded to the scene and are investigating. Crime scene investigators are also at the scene processing for evidence. Detectives are also canvassing the apartment complex for any potential witnesses.

This case is being investigated as a suspicious death; likely a homicide.

Detectives are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who heard or saw anything in the last week at this location or has any information. If they have not talked to detectives yet they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS there is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
