Tonight, Kansas City's bravest first responders answer the call amid continued urban gunfire and the worsening homicide count.
A quick glimpse at the numbers as we understand them . . .
YTD - This latest killing represents a 6% spike in murder over last year when the number was only 144 at this date on the calendar.
More importantly . . . KCMO STILL confronts a record year for homicides. Remember, in 2020 at this point KC recorded 156 homicides and the recent uptick in shootings reveals there's still a risk of locals pushing these tragic stats upward.
Here's the first report . . .
Homicide 4200 block of Benton Blvd
Tonight right at 8:30pm officers were dispatched to the 4200 block of Benton Blvd on a sound of shots call. While officers were on the way they received several more 911 calls for sound of gunshots.
On arrival officers located evidence of gunfire at the location.
Minutes later Central Patrol officers were dispdispatched to University Health on a shooting victim that showed up by private vehicle. The shooting was reported to have happened at the 4200 block of Benton location.
That shooting victim, an adult male, was declared deceased at the hospital.
Homicide detectives are at both locations along with Crime Scene investigators, processing the scene for evidence and canvassing for witnesses.
If anyone saw anything or has any information and they have not talked to detectives yet they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS there is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

Kansas City police investigating deadly shooting on Benton Boulevard

1 dead in Monday night shooting in Kansas City's Oak Park neighborhood
One man died in a shooting Monday night in KCMO's Oak Park neighborhood, police said. The shooting unfolded about 8:30 p.m. near east 43rd Street and Benton Boulevard.
