Kansas City Playlist: Strike For 40% Raise & 4-Day Work Week?!?

Labor Day weekend consideration for this evening . . .

Kansas City as is at the apex of how Americans will view the future of labor.

Depending on the outcome of strike threats:

We're either looking at fundamental reconception of the working world OR collective bargaining will be deemed far too progressive and out-of-touch with real world demands of the global economy.

We're anxious to see who wins this forthcoming debate.

Check what's at stake for thousands of workers at Fairfax & Claycomo and a decision that will impact the American economy at large . . . .

Even the most skeptical observers believe Ford & GM have the cash to give workers as much as a 40% pay hike.

On the low-end . . . This is good for everyone and will serve to drive up wages. Sadly, your dream of starting a hamburger stand and paying workers in leftovers is likely kaput if this occurs.

An even more controversial notion . . .

As UAW seeks 4-day workweek, the idea gains ground with US workers

This one is tough.

If there's any progress on this  . . . It will change how the global economy works.

Still . . . Transitions can be tough . . .

The same people who would completely deny this kind of realignment might have a lot in common with those who once mistakenly believed that child-labor was an acceptable practice for the lower-castes.

Real talk . . . A quick look at how phones and so many other consumer goods are manufactured across the globe should inform practical views about labor . . . But don't. Heck, even Chipotle has problems with hiring youngsters.

But I digress . . . We're not arguing either way . . . Still, we want readers consider this . . .

What's the point of so much technological advancement if it doesn't benefit humans???

People once believed that the forward progress of science would help to make the lives of Americans easier AND NOT require even more labor entering mostly pointless data into computers so that they can spit back a formula to make money.

Punchline . . .

Have you ever tried to get anything done on Friday afternoon??? Friday afternoon work is pretty much impossible and the dirty little secret is that we're ALREADY halfway toward a 4-day work week in practice if not theory.

And so . . . We'll keep watching this labor debate and hope that our pals get a raise.

And all of this inspires our www.TonysKansasCity.com playlist dedicate to work and Jimmy Buffett given that most of his career was dedicated to taking it easy . . .

If you haven't goofed off with this song playing in the background, you're doing work wrong and missing the point of having a job in the first place . . .

A truly awful tune from Loverboy is dedicated to the idea of working & extreme party life which should inspire everyone to stay home . . .

Guilty admission . . . An old school Isley Brothers cover from The Average White Band is pretty damn good but MIGHT show us that our conceptions of labor are more outdated than we'd like to admit.

This song isn't one of our faves but provides a glimpse at Parrothead life that takes vacationing seriously and, ironically, turned it into an industry:

This HORRIBLE song from Styx is a our TKC Labor Day weekend tradition and something to remind us that even the most powerful sentiments can be ruined by taking yourself too seriously . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
