Kansas City Northland High School Builds Trans Royalty Tradition

Look closely at this story beyond reactionary hype and political acrimony . . .

TRANS TRADITION TAKES HOLD AT KANSAS CITY HIGH SCHOOL & STUDENTS SEEMINGLY EMBRACE NEW GENDER NORMS!!!

That's not an endorsement . . . Merely a statement of fact.

Old school 'Homecoming' tradition has been deconstructed and now serves as a platform to champion and promote alternatives to traditional female roles.

Go one step further and realize that rhetorical endorsements of a white trans winner supersede efforts to celebrate greater ethnic diversity in the Northland. Real talk: Latina or Asian women don't merit this kind of publicity, even amid talk of more "inclusive" educational institutions and media coverage.

From our vantage . . . Getting worked up over anything involving high school students is a mistake and online pundits often forget that the most important part of any discussion on schools is the well-being and safety of students.

In this story, we focus on the perspective of an adult drag queen who still works out of KC and shares her perspective on the new school royalty . . .

The 2023 homecoming queen has had someone to look to during this time, Landon Patterson, a transgender woman who was crowned Homecoming Queen at Oak Park in 2015.

“It just felt good, that reassuring feeling, everything that I went through in 2015, it wasn’t for nothing,” Patterson said. “It makes me happy to see, even though there’s a lot of hate still, her family is there for her, her students are there for her, and love always beats out the hate.”
