Kansas City Homicide #136: Witnesses Scatter After Deadly Downtown Shooting

This morning the Labor Day weekend carnage continues . . .

THIS IS THE 4TH HOMICIDE SO FAR THIS 2023 LABOR DAY WEEKEND!!!

Again, we're quickly moving past record breaking 2020 numbers late in the year and the spike over last year's rate of killing nears 20% . . . 

Even worse . . . Proponents of increased downtown "density" have been silent on rising crime in and around the loop as local speculators seem far more interested in promoting tourist attractions and development schemes.

Here's the first report . . .

Homicide 9th/Jefferson

Upon arriving to the scene, officers were flagged down by citizens to the area of W 8th and Pennsylvania. Officers located an adult male victim laying in a park area unresponsive. The victim was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers began rendering medical aid immediately until EMS responded and took over life saving measures. EMS transported the victim to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Multiple witnesses were on scene, but left the area when officers arrived. A crime scene was located nearby.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene and will begin processing for evidence and speaking with potential witnesses.

Detectives do not currently have any persons of interest in police custody and this investigation is considered on-going.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
