Recent data from the Kansas City Police Department shows that only slightly more than half of emergency calls were answered within the first 15 seconds in August.
The industry standard stands at around 90 percent.
Twenty-three percent of callers remained on hold for up to a minute.
In August, the average wait time for the 911 service was 1 minute and 32 seconds. On Aug. 13, one caller waited for 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 53 seconds.
